About Heidelberg

Heidelberg is known for being one of the most beautiful cities in Germany. The idyllic river setting in which it lies, is an exquisite landscape enjoyed by locals and tourists alike. Places of Interest in Heidelberg

Visit the Heidelberg Castle Festival in the summer and enjoy an open-air theatre performance or concert. The castle itself is also magnificent and is a beautiful mix of the Gothic and Renaissance styles. There are many of these historical churches scattered throughout Heidelberg and are definitely worth visiting if you’re looking for an insight into German history. There is a host of renowned museums in Heidelberg to further whet this appetite should you have it. The Carl Bosch Museum and the Documentation and Culture Centre of German Sinti and Roma showcase some of the most genuine aspects of German history that one can experience. You should also have a look around the SRH Hochschule as it is one of the oldest and largest private universities in Germany. If you’re planning your bus trip for the winter months, make sure its November. Every year in November the International Filmfestival of Mannheim-Heidelberg takes place here. Perhaps you’ll love it so much you’ll even come back one month later for the spectacular Christmas markets.

Heidelberg is traditionally known for being a city of romance. This emanated from the various poets that took part in the movement against classical and realistic literature around the Age of Enlightenment. Take a stroll on the Philosophers’ Walk, a beautiful walkway overlooking the whole city, and gain an insight into this era of intrigue. Fast forward to more modern times, this element of romanticism remained in the heart of the city. “I Lost My Heart in Heidelberg” was a major hit and was the source of much inspiration in the art world whilst becoming the theme song of Heidelberg.
