Balboa Park

Balboa Park is a must-see destination for anyone visiting San Diego. The park is home to 1200 acres of lush gardens, remarkable architecture and over a dozen museums including the Air & Space Museum, Museum of Art, Museum of Man and the Natural History Museum. The park was created in 1868 and was used as the location for the Panama-California Exposition in 1915, which greatly impacted the park’s architecture and overall aesthetic.

What is there to do in the park?

Along with the many museums located throughout the park, Balboa is also home to many stunning gardens, a carousel and theatrical performance venues.

In the northern part of the park, lies one of SoCal’s biggest attractions, the San Diego Zoo. Home to over 3000 animals displayed in enclosures that replicate their natural habitats, the zoo is one of the best in the country. Join one of the tours for an overview of the zoo or take a ride of the Skyfari cable car. Exhibitions include 7.5-acre Elephant Odyssey, Koalas at the Australian Outback, Gorilla Tropics, the Hippo Trail and polar bears at the Northern Frontier.

How much does entry to the zoo cost?

One day passes start at $54 for adults, while the 2-visit pass is $86.40, or a membership starts at $112. Special experiences and tours are available for additional costs.
