FlixBus makes Union Station Bus Terminal its home in Toronto

26/10/2022

Toronto transit hub provides easy access to Toronto events, nightlife and culture from all corners of FlixBus’ Ontario domestic network

New York, NY. (October 26, 2022). FlixBus, North America’s fastest-growing intercity mobility provider, is realizing a major milestone on its Ontario network by beginning service from Union Station Bus Terminal in Toronto beginning on October 27, 2022. All FlixBus service in the province will now run through this historic railway station and intermodal transit hub.

FlixBus launched its Ontario network in April 2022 and cross-border service between the U.S. and Canada in May 2022, and this network has already proven to be one of the most successful in FlixBus’ North American network stretching from Windsor to Ottawa. With the recent launches of new lines to Windsor, Chatham-Kent, Brantford, Whitby-Oshawa, London, Hamilton and cross-border service to New York City and Buffalo-Niagara International Airport, Canadian travelers have more compelling options for affordable, convenient and sustainable travel for short or long-haul trips.

Toronto Union Station

Toronto has been the central hub for FlixBus’ Ontario network since its launch in April 2022, and after starting with a stop in Toronto’s Harbourfront, all FlixBus trips to Toronto will now run through the historic Union Station (65 Front Street) with easy access to Toronto sporting events, music and cultural events throughout the city. Additionally, FlixBus also provides service to Scarborough in the Toronto metropolitan area.

Union Station is Canada's busiest transportation facility and the third-busiest railway station in North America, serving over 72 million passengers each year. More than half of all Canadian intercity passengers and 91 percent of Toronto commuter train passengers travel through Union Station, which will make it easy for FlixBus riders to transfer or get to where they’re going quickly throughout Toronto.

Travel affordably, conveniently and sustainably through local bus partners

The entire FlixBus network is comprised of and driven by local bus partners, many of which are family-owned. Riding with FlixBus means customers are helping to support these local businesses and play a part in giving back to the community that these partners serve.

FlixBus’ Canadian domestic network is operated by Gallexy Tours and Skyway Coach Tours, both Toronto-based motorcoach operators who trust in FlixBus' technological expertise in pricing, marketing and sales, route intelligence, quality management and continuous product expansion. The buses also apply the company's international standard, which includes services such as free on-board Wi-Fi.

Save money and carbon emissions with intercity buses

FlixBus puts the power of sustainability into riders’ hands through optional carbon offset credits:

  • FlixBus has collaborated with atmosfair to offer customers the option to travel climate friendly on their FlixBus journey. Customers can purchase “CO2 Compensation” tickets during booking, thereby making a voluntary environmental contribution.

  • The optional cost of traveling green will be added to customers' ticket prices, approximately 1-3% of the original ticket price.

  • 75% of climate contribution donations in the United States and Canada are invested in atmosfair’s UN-accredited Gold Standard Climate Protection Project Cleaner Cook Stoves in Rwanda

  • The remaining 25% flows into the “Future of Mobility Fund” set up together by Flix and atmosfair, to drive sustainable mobility and decarbonization in the cities and communities where we operate. These donations help to take emerging carbon-neutral technologies out of the lab and onto the road for real impact. Customers will also support local communities, NGOs and volunteer groups to make eco-friendly living choices accessible to everyone.
