With something for everyone, you can find the perfect beach for your sunny California vacation!

Check out three of our favorite beaches in California.

La Jolla Shore, San Diego

The iconic La Jolla coastline is located about 14 miles north of Downtown San Diego. Featuring some of the most beautiful scenery in the world, it’s no surprise that La Jolla is home to some of the best beaches in California. With its soft white sand and calm water, the beach is a must-see in San Diego and the perfect place to go to soak up some ‘vitamin sea’. While you’re there, try some water sports like scuba diving or snorkeling, take a surf lesson or go kayaking! La Jolla Underwater Park is just off the coastline and home to various marine animals from squids to leopard sharks and dolphins.

One of the top attractions in La Jolla is the seven sea caves bordering the La Jolla Underwater Park. Most of the caves are accessible by kayaking, paddle boarding, scuba diving and snorkeling. Here, you can see the residential seals and sea lions soaking up the sun on the beach. Walk to Sunny Jim’s and Clam’s Sea Caves to get a good look at the animals in the water and perched on the cliffs.

Santa Monica Beach

Santa Monica Beach is the perfect place to escape busy city life and have some fun! With 3.5 miles of quintessential South Californian beach, it’s no surprise that it is one of the most popular beaches on the West Coast. Make sure to check out the original Muscle Beach, established in the early 1930s, where you can see people working out on the outdoor gym equipment and ropes. Afterwards, take a dip in the water or learn to surf and paddleboard. You can also rent a bike and explore the 22-mile path that winds through Venice and Hermosa Beach and ends in Torrance.

You can’t visit Santa Monica without visiting the Santa Monica Pier and its iconic Ferris wheel. Featuring an arcade, a full-service amusement park, restaurants, bars and souvenir shops, the Santa Monica Pier offers a wide range of activities for visitors of all ages. Watch the sunset over the ocean at the pier before heading to Downtown Santa Monica or Los Angeles.

Coronado Beach, San Diego

After a morning of exploring Downtown San Diego, head over to the historic Coronado beach. Regarded as one of the best beaches in Southern California, it is no wonder that millions of visitors and locals have flocked to the area since its opening in the 1880s. The white sandy beaches and calm waters make Coronado a popular spot for swimmers, surfers, sunbathers and pet owners alike, with a designated dog beach located at the north end. Walk along the shore to discover the many tide pools and a half-sunken boat that can be seen during low tides. If you stay at the beach until sunset, search for one of Coronado’s free fire pits and roast some marshmallows with your friends. During summer you can also see SeaWorld’s nightly fireworks display from the southern firepit.

No trip to Coronado Island is complete without a visit to the iconic Hotel Del Coronado. Built in 1888, the hotel is famous for its Victorian architecture and impressive guest list, with celebrities, politicians and royals regularly staying at the hotel. But be careful during your visit, there are rumors that the hotel is haunted.
